Music and Wine

My brother-in-law’s birthday is just around the corner.  His wife is organizing a birthday party for him to celebrate his 40th birthday.   It is going to be a fun celebration.  I have been cracking my head what to get him for his birthday. Actually I found a vox amplug metal headphone amp which I think he would like since he loves listening to music all the time.  Then I was also contemplating on getting him this nifty wine bottle holder – Lasso Bottle Holder as he is into drinking wine.  Decisions, decision.

Stuff I Want To Hide

Once I am done ordering the 22″ drawer slides for my kitchen drawers, I am going to get myself some boxes for storage. I spotted these humorous storage boxes from Anthropologie.  They are great for storing away some of my craft items, old documents and other knick-knacks around the house.  I also need a few to store away some old toys for memories.  Oh, I may have some secrets stash too.

Everybody Can Do a Little DIY – And That Means You

There are some jobs you should leave to the experts and there are many which you should tackle yourself. Some painting and decorating jobs may be a little tricky but everybody can learn how to paint a wall . . . and that means you.

We’ve all heard the excuses. I don’t have the time. My arms get tired. I haven’t got the right equipment. I don’t such as the smell. I’m not tall enough to reach the top of the wall and that i don’t use a step-ladder.

Let’s rewind to this last potential problem – I’m not tall enough to reach the top of the wall. Let me ask just this one question . . . who may be? You don’t even need to have a step-ladder nowadays, it can be this kind of bind always having to climb down the steps to move the ladder across every 5 minutes – then climb backup – then climb back again.

There exists another way – drywall stilts. They are awesome, they may be lightweight, safe and they move when you do. Check out the great selection on www.thelashop.com.

Okay, back to business – painting and decorating made easy. One thing to remember is one of the most important parts of decorating and painting happens before you even get a brush with your hand – a professional job needs professional quality preparation. Before you start to color the results will probably be much better, when your ceilings and walls are in a good state.

• Make sure that the walls / ceilings are free and clean from smooth, dust and dry. Rinse using clean water by leaving them to dry if your walls are a little dirty let them have a wash down using sugar soap.

• Be sure that you remove any blemishes brought on by new plaster.

• The order of things is also important – start out with the ceiling, then paint the walls and leave any woodwork till the end.

• Brush, Roller or Paint Pad? – Whatever you use for the majority of your painting job you will also need to use a brush. Rollers and paint pads cannot go into those awkward corners likewise that a smallish brush can. Rollers and pads are perfect for larger, straight or flat surfaces like the majority of walls and ceilings but you’ll need a brush for the corners and the tricky bits.

• Paint rollers are best used slowly otherwise you will find yourself and your surroundings covered with a splattering of the paint. If necessary, Rollers can be linked to longer poles for ceilings.

Different sized paint pads are compatible with different areas. Use a 200mm paint pad for the ceilings and walls along with a smaller 30mm / 50mm paint pad is useful for cutting in. Keep your pad flat against the wall whilst you are painting moving randomly all over the surface but finish off with long, straight strokes.

You’ll be surprised at how a fresh lick of paint can really help to transform a tired looking room. Whether you fancy a change of color (you will need more than one coat of paint if you are going from dark to light colors) or whether you just want to freshen up among the rooms in your house this is one DIY project which you should be able to tackle yourself. Remember to hide the carpets and furniture when you haven’t removed them and wear old clothes – no matter how careful you are you’re sure to get some paint on the clothes.
